Culture Theory
David Kaplan, Robert A. Manners
United by a central focus on man and his works, anthropology remains a field of extreme diversity. It is partly a biological science, partly a social science. It encompasses the study of prehistoric times and modern times. Its field workers are posted around the world, among peoples of
every type, from Australian aborigines to urban Americans. It would be difficult within a single textbook written by one or two men to provide an expert account of all that anthropology is. This is only possible in a series such as The Foundations of Modern Anthropology, where specialists in
each branch are permitted to develop readable and informed studies of their particular anthropological province
